Myth: Does Soy Increase Estrogen Levels?

These compounds belong to a group known as phytoestrogens - plant-derived compounds that have a different chemical structure from human estrogen and are significantly weaker in their biological activity. In addition, they bind to estrogen receptors differently than the body's own hormones.

Long-term clinical studies and extensive scientific reviews have found no evidence that normal consumption of soy foods or high-quality soy protein isolate increases estrogen levels, causes feminization in men, or disrupts hormonal balance in healthy men or women.
